The Financial Services Authority (FSA) is allowing more time for consumers to complain about mis-sold loan payment protection. Consumers who have been wronged and want to reclaim mis-sold Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) typically only have 6 months from the time a complaint has been rejected by a bank or lender to take their complaint to the final adjudicator, the Financial Ombudsman Service, but the FSA has temporarily waived the 6 month limitation.

So if you have made a complaint to your bank about mis-sold PPI and want to claim back your Payment Protection Insurance, but had your complaint rejected by the bank with a final response between the dates of 28 November 2009 and 28 April 2010, you still have time to take your claim further with the Financial Ombudsman Service. Strathern Associates can  help you with this process.

The FSA has waived the 6 month time limitation until 27 October 2010.  The FSA took this action to ensure that people who had made a complaint about mis-sold PPI were not disadvantaged by running out of time to refer their complaints to the final adjudicator, the Financial Ombudsman Service.  The FSA has also said that it is working with the lending industry to ensure that consumers are treated fairly and consistently when they complain about the mis-selling of PPI insurance for a PPI refund.

In other news, the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS – which deals with PPI complaint were the lender has since ceased trading) has announced today in its annual reports, that it has paid more than £204 million pounds in compensation to  over 21,000 consumers in the last year.
